Zachry Industrial, Inc. awarded LG&E’s Mill Creek Retrofit projects
Zachry Industrial, Inc. was awarded a contract from Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU) for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction retrofit of the Mill Creek Generating Station, located in Louisville, Kentucky. On-site mobilization is set for September 2012, and work is expected to continue through 2016.
The project team will consist of more than 600 employees at peak. Zachry’s Design Center in Denver, Colo. will provide the engineering and design. Most recently, Zachry’s work with LG&E/KU includes the E. W. Brown Unit 3 Selective Catalytic Reduction Project, scheduled for completion in December 2012.
The Mill Creek scope includes a retrofit of Units 1 &2 with new ductwork; new Pulse Jet Fabric Filters (PJFF); four new booster fans; a single new Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD) system; a new chimney; BOP support systems; and electrical/controls.
On Unit 3 Zachry will demolish the existing Unit 3 WFGD, and furnish and install new ductwork; new PJFF and BOP support systems; new ID Fans; and modified electrical/controls. The existing Unit 4 WFDG will be modified and tied in for use with Unit 3. The retrofit scope for Unit 4 includes a new PJFF; new booster fans; a new WFGD; and a new chimney.
