Zachry Industrial and Zachry Engineering have been awarded a contract to design and build a new production plant for emulsion polymers at BASF’s integrated “Verbund” site in Freeport, Texas. The new plant, which is expected to begin production in mid-2014, will create approximately 25 new jobs at the Freeport site.

“This project reflects our EPC capabilities for the process industries and will strengthen our relationship with BASF, a leader in the global chemicals industry,” said Bruce Chamrad, director of business development for Zachry. “We are excited to continue our work with BASF, and to expand our presence and investment in the Freeport community.”

The new plant will serve the coatings, construction, adhesives and paper industries, and will manufacture acrylic emulsion polymers used for architectural coatings, construction chemicals, adhesives, and the paper chemicals industry.

“We are excited to help BASF bring their ‘Verbund’ concept to another location,” said Scott Duffy, senior vice president for Zachry. “Using our integrated EPC approach and direct-hire construction model, we will assist BASF in their goals to safely enhance their production site; maximize the production efficiencies of acrylic dispersions; and reduce waste and emissions.”
